For years I’ve been carrying around the ashes of a relationship I wanted God to revive. I kept the remnants of a fiery and painful…
“But those who trust in the Lord will find new strength. They will soar high on wings like eagles. They will run and not grow…
2019 already feels like my best year ever. Many of you are aware that earlier this month I started a new job. It has been one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. I love the work itself, I love the interaction I have with my customers, employees, and co-workers, and the location I’ve been assigned to is right back in my hometown. I feel like I’ve come home in so many ways.
For nearly a year, I was in the routine of writing for an hour and a half each morning before I went to work. That routine was busted because I didn’t feel the urgency of that time. Meaning, I told myself I could do something else during that time because, “I have all day to write.”
But I didn’t. I didn’t write, because I didn’t intentionally set aside time to do so. This tells me a lot about the importance of a routine in my life.
But – it is not a gift simply for gift’s sake. He freely makes us new and gives us the ability to see people the way He does for a reason, listed in verse 18.
“And all of this is a gift from God, who brought us back to Himself through Christ. And God has given us this task of reconciling people to Him.”
When I came to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ, it wasn’t because someone told me that sleeping around, drinking, and having an abortion was wrong. In fact, the people who told me that are the ones who drove me away from church.
The message I received was, “Stop sinning and trust Jesus so He can love you.”
We want them to know about Jesus and about the holiness of God, but the idea that they will be as welcome in the church and in the kingdom of God as we are? Nope. They shouldn’t get off that easy after what they’ve done!
While we are both fairly adept at meeting these needs when we are at home, I recently came to realize they were causing some mismanaged expectations during our Quality Time moments.
It all comes down to defining what “Quality” is to Robert verses what it means to me.
Music has always been a direct line into the deepest parts of me. When a song or a lyric connect with me, there are moments when God’s voice inside me is louder and clearer than at any other time of prayer or study.
