Book Review: The Shadows Between Us

As I’ve finally been able to regain some time in the mornings to write, I am back to work on a couple projects I’ve had in process for a while now. I’ll share what those are soon, but – in the mean time, I’ve revamped the blog and will be combining what used to be three separate blogs into one.

It will bring all of my favorite things together – reading, drinking coffee, writing, and sharing what Jesus is teaching me about life. With our current world events, there will probably be more frequent posts that will taper off as things get back to normal, but that’s okay. I have a LOT of time to make up.

I sincerely hope my choices get better as the year goes, because I did not choose well for my first review!

THE SHADOWS BETWEEN US, by Tricia Levenseller

This one was slow going in the first two or three chapters, but at chapter 7, I finally started getting into the story, mostly because I found the Shadow King more interesting than her.

However, by chapter 10, I had to call this one a DNF. I wasn’t drawn in to care about Alessandra and found no redeeming qualities about her. The constant descriptions of what everyone was wearing got repetitive. Had the story alternated between Kallias and her, I might have hung with it. I was truly intrigued by the Shadow King himself, but Alessandra came across to selfish and vain for me to care what happened to her.

It is billed as ‘the Slytherin romance we’ve been waiting for’ so maybe a Potter fan would like it? I am one of the rare non-Potter fans, so perhaps that’s the reason this one just isn’t for me.

Unfortunately, my first new review in a while ends up being a DNF, but I have many more on my TBR list for the year, and certainly hope to have better luck with the next one!
